Great discoveries are made accidentally. We have heard about many great inventions given by the famous inventors till now. Today we will discuss some of those inventions that evolved accidentally. Although these discoveries have taken the world to the next level and are very useful in human life. I have searched out 10 accidental inventions which are extremely useful in today’s era.

1.            The Microwave




In the 1940s, Raytheon in the U.S. company was working on the use of Magnetron used in radar systems. Percy Spencer was standing next to the device and notice that a chocolate bar starts melting in his pocket. All the time he worked further and kept food bowl and found that the food cooked faster due to microwave energy. What a great discovery by Spencer. For most of the people, it is the gift by Percy L. Spencer.

2.            Saccharin




One day both the person Remsen and Fahlberg was working in John’s Hopkins laboratory on coal tar derivatives and left for dinner. Constantin hasn't washed his hand while eating, he felt a sweet thing in his hand. Now this sweetener turned out a calorie-free which is one of the new inventions of all time. This accidental discovers allow diabetic patients to taste sweeter.

3.            Play-Doh




Who don’t know Play-Doh, you may have seen kids playing with it makes different shapes. Well, it was developed not for playing purposes, but as a wall cleaner, as a result, this idea didn’t work at all. This leads to bankruptcy to Kutol products. Later, school children were starting creating several types of arts and ornaments. From that day onwards, this has been used as playing thing.

4.            Velcro




This is science invention something surprising that a dog was the base to discover Velcro, No it’s right! All right, let me elaborate it. Actually, what happened George de Mestral was on a hunting trip with his dog and notice and the irritating tendency of burrs to stick with his furs(socks). From that time he spends years to find a fabric and finally, Velcro was invented.

5.            Ice Cream Cones




We all are ice cream fans, especially the cone, right? But did you know that these cone evolutions were actually done because there was nothing left to serve ice cream! Yes, in earlier year’s ice cream was served in dishes. Near about 1904, an ice cream stall at the fair was doing so well and their plates were running out so quickly. While on the other side a Persian waffle stall was hardly selling anything. Then the two stall owners decided of rolling up the waffles and plopping ice cream on the rolled waffle. Like this, the ice cream cone was born.

6.            Super Glue




In 1942, when Harry Coover was working in the laboratory he found a substance that was created by him only – Cyanoacrylate, which was a great failure. He found that he was stuck in the same thing and it was so strong that he could not come out. Further, Harry and his team start playing by sticking various objects in the laboratory and found a strong bond without heating. This is how super glue was known to all.

7.            Pacemaker




Yes, this too is an Accidental Invention, it was not made as the pacemaker. Well, it was a result of Wilson Greatbatch who was trying to make an oscillator to record the heart sound, but he pulled out the wrong resistor from the box. On the contrary, as the device was assembled it starts collecting the electric pulse. And thus used as a pacemaker by doctors.

8.            X-Rays




The invention story of X-rays is a fascinating one. In the days of 1895, when Wilhelm Roentgen was doing his routine experiment, including cathode rays. He experienced a surprising thing that a  piece of fluorescent cardboard was lit up from across the room. Also, he noticed that the light was passing through the solid objects and this is how the first x-ray image was taken of his wife’s hand.

9.            Matches




One day John Walker was working with certain chemicals and found a dried substance at the end of the stick. As he tried to remove that it suddenly gets voila, sparks and flame. Thereafter, he named these sticks as Friction lights and sold under his pharmacy. Now, these matches come in a cardboard box and equipped with sandpaper.

10.          Viagra




This was discovered as a drug only, but to treat people with Angina, originator to heart attacks. The company was hoping that this drug would relax the blood vessel but it failed. Coincidentally, This blue pills became the first oral treatment for ED (erectile dysfunction).
